Instagram is currently testing out a new home feed, splitting out its sections, with the hope to roll this out in the next 6 months if all goes well.

Why?

Instagram have recognised that when you go to your own home feed it can look cluttered and frustrating for some users to get to what they what to see quicker

Your followers typically see their own home feeds along with your content and suggestions from Instagram of other content the person following you might also be interested in

It’s trying to give people more control over what they see when they are scrolling and could in turn increase your reach and engagement by getting content to the people that want to see it sooner!

What?

The new ‘split’ home feed is currently being tested to give the user options to switch between three sections, these are:

1. HOME:

This will remain similar to the home feed we have at the moment and we will see more suggested content over time.

2. FAVOURITES:

Allows you to select the accounts you don’t want to miss, such as your friends or favourite content creators and eliminates the need to scroll and scroll for it. So, if you make standout content relevant to them, they are more likely to add you to their favourites and to see your content when it is released!

3. FOLLOWING:

This is a home feed that is made up of everyone you are following and another chance for more reach. People following you will see your content chronologically (like it used to be) by listing all the posts by the people you follow, instead of algorithmically (like the current home feed) where it is Instagram that decides.

In Summary:

Instagram hopes it gives users more control over what they see in their own home feed and not what Instagram ‘thinks’ people want to see via its algorithm.
